Every host has had that moment: the guests are arriving and nobody can find a bottle opener. Use this checklist to stock a bar that's ready for anything.
Drinks
- Beer and hard seltzer
- Red, white and sparkling wine
- Spirits for your menu (vodka, gin, tequila, rum and whiskey cover most cocktails)
- Champagne or prosecco for toasts
Mixers
- Tonic water and club soda
- Cola, lemon-lime soda and ginger beer
- Cranberry, orange and pineapple juice
- Simple syrup or agave
Work mixers out from your recipes: add up what each drink on your menu calls for rather than assuming a flat amount per bottle.
Garnishes
- Fresh lemons and limes
- Oranges
- Mint or other fresh herbs
- Olives and cocktail cherries
Tools
- Cocktail shakers and strainers
- Jiggers for measuring
- Bar spoons
- Wine key and bottle opener
- Cutting board and knife
- Pitchers for batched drinks
Serveware and supplies
- Cups or glassware — plan for replacements and whether anything is being washed; 2 to 3 per guest is a workable starting point
- Cocktail napkins
- Straws and stir sticks
- Coolers or beverage bins for chilling
- Trash and recycling bins
- Bar towels
Ice
- 1 to 2 pounds per guest for drinks
- Extra ice for chilling bottles and cans
- An ice scoop (never scoop with a glass)
Non-alcoholic options
- Still and sparkling water
- At least one special mocktail

What we bring depends on the package you quote. Full-service packages include the mobile bar, equipment, ice and package-specific mixers, non-alcoholic beverages and garnishes; bartender-only service leaves the bar, alcohol and required supplies with you, confirmed in your quote. Either way, you only need to worry about your guests. Get a quote at info.shakeandgather@gmail.com or 217-374-9985.
